Islington Survivors Failed by Islington Council SPS and DAC Beachcroft Solicitors Part 4
An Islington Survivors victim has called on Jeremy Corbyn to explore the possibility of legal action against DAC Beachcroft Legal Services for violating human rights.
Despite public criticism, DAC Beachcroft Legal Services seem unperturbed.
The public speculates that DAC Beachcroft Legal Services believe they are above the law and immune to negative public opinion due to their position in the legal field.
On Monday, July 24th, 2023, the same Islington Survivors victim, who had originally submitted her application in February of that same year, reported that DAC Beachcroft Legal Services, after a six-month wait, had finally accepted her application.
Despite this positive outcome, the victim alleges that hers is an isolated incident.
The victim observed that Local officials and projects must be scrutinized in-depth and held accountable.
Democracy means giving power to the people, and local government must be reformed to reflect this principle.
This, however, seems unlikely due to the complicated situation with the regional government treaty and the government’s desire to maintain control.
Delays caused by DAC Beachcroft Solicitors and the Islington Council SPS team have led to public scrutiny and speculation.
The victim alleges that Dr Liz Davies, who founded the Islington Survivor’s Network (ISN), initially supported the victim’s efforts to expose the mistreatment of victims by the Islington Council SPS team.
However, when the victim raised concerns about the ethical practices of the law firms, Dr Davies started to undermine her efforts.
Dr Davies’s restraint may have been influenced by the potential of being sued or the mounting rumours of dishonesty.
The paranoid victim from Islington strongly believes that DAC Beachcroft Solicitors, the Islington Survivor’s Network, and the Islington Council SPS are working together to dupe the public.
The victim pointed out that many well-intentioned individuals who believed they could fight against corrupt systems from within have ended up succumbing to corruption themselves.
Although an external investigation is unlikely, the public has accused DAC Beachcroft Solicitors, the Islington Council SPS team, and their supporters of the alleged mishandling of Islington Survivors Payment Scheme funds.
It’s important to understand the budget allocation of the Islington Survivors Support Scheme, which opened in May 2022.
The scheme offers £10,000 to every Islington child who suffered abuse while in care homes.
Approved payout estimates were initially intended for 2000 victims, totalling £20,000,000.
According to an article by Helen Chapman in the October 2022 WestministerExtra, ”£10,000 payments for the survivors of the abuse scandal,” it was expected that thousands of survivors could come forward.
However, since 2017, eight survivors of the abuse have already passed away.
As of now, only around 200 applicants are expected to receive the payout, amounting to £2,000,000.
Those interested in applying have until June 2024 to submit their statements to the scheme before it closes.
While it may not be a pleasant possibility to consider, there is no evidence to confirm or deny whether DAC Beachcroft Legal Services’ delays could be linked to an attempted embezzlement of funds from the Islington Survivors Support Payment Scheme.
It is conceivable that false claims could be created before the deadline to achieve this.
The would-be whistle-blower maintains that the DAC Beachcroft Solicitors and Islington SPS team are entirely responsible for the public’s persistent lack of faith.
If DAC Beachcroft Solicitors had provided the survivors with timely updates instead of insisting on making them wait for over six months, the scandal might have been avoided.
Additionally, the Islington Council SPS team should have taken steps to prevent the situation.
It has been suggested that Jeremy Corbyn, an MP, could meet with the Home Secretary to discuss the Islington Survivors’ case.
This could be a helpful way to utilize political involvement and potentially positively impact the situation.
If necessary, Islington Survivors may need to request media coverage.
However, for now, the Islington Survivors are imploring Jeremy Corbyn to act in support of this human rights issue.
